A Simper, Gentler Time

It was a cold winter morning as the Milky Way rose, but I was warmed by the memories of a simpler, gentler time ..... summer breezes and long lazy days at the State Lake .............
The snack bar/bait shop would have been behind me - the tile floor still there ....
The smell- oh the smell - live bait, hot dogs and cold soda - oh. the. smell!
Juke box blaring .... the cool boys staring from behind their shades.
There was a beach around the bend ...... right.. over.. there .....
Sand in your hair... water up your nose....
Laughter pealing... children squealing.....
Paddle boats and canoes floating languidly past the busy beach.

Sudden quiet startled me from my reverie. My camera sat silent...done shooting the multiple images I would study later. The lake, too, is quiet, save for ducks and geese and an occasional beaver.
It is a fishing lake now.

Gone are the snack bar and swimming platforms - the only boats are fishing - even the sand has slipped below the silent water. As the Milky Way fled the dawn of a new day I packed my gear and collected my memories, and slipped away from the cold, clear, quiet.
